Academic Vocabulary - record the definitions under the tabs in your notebook.
- characterization: the way a writer creates and developed characters
- dialogue: a conversation between 2 or more persons
- conflict: a struggle between 2 forces: character vs. self, character, nature or society.
- protagonist: the main character or the character the reader identifies with
- antagonist: the character that stands in opposition of the main character
- suspense: a feeling of excitement about the unknown that the author creates
- tone: an expression of attitude
- cite: to quote as evidence to support a statement or argument
- explicit: fully and clearly expressed or stated
- textual evidence: explicit details offered to support an idea
- paraphrase: to briefly retell the main idea of a text in one's own words
- relevant: related to the topic
- irrelevant: unrelated to the topic
