Some Background Knowledge
Writing Prompt:
buying physical textbooks. They want to buy iPads for every classroom that
will use e-books in stead of textbooks. This is a big decision. The Board is
split on whether or not this is a good thing. They have asked for input from
members of the school community, and this includes you. Should schools
replace textbooks with e-books?
Collaboration and Discussion
Start with the person closest to the window:
Partner 1:Share which piece of evidence you feel is the most compelling (strongest)
and defend your answer - what logical reasoning do you have to show how this evidence supports the claim?
Partner 2: It is your task to challenge your partner's reasoning. Is their explanation logical? Is it flawed? Can you think of a piece of evidence in the text that
would make a reasonable counter claim?
You will have 3 minutes to complete your discussion on Partner 1's evidence. When the timer goes off, partner 2 will share his or her compelling evidence.
