The Outsiders, Chapter 2
Make sure everyone in your group is on page 19 and that head phones are plugged in before pressing play. You may read without the audio if you choose to. All eyes must be on the text.
When you finish, record the following definitions on top of the pink tabs in your notebook: social status, economic status and educational status.
Notes on Social Class
or educational status.
- social status: How do other members of society perceive them in general?
- economic status: How would you describe their income or financial situation?
- educational status: How much education did they receive? What are their general attitudes and thoughts about education?
Under the pink tabs, record your thoughts about social class.
How would you describe the Greasers and the Socs in terms of
social status, economic status and educational status? You might have to
make inferences or educated guesses to complete your chart.
Learning Goal: Write an argument that supports
a claim with clear reasons and relevant evidence.
*This does not have to be a formal, multi-paragraph essay, but you
must include all Level 3 elements in your response.
Prompt: Ponyboy believes the Socs get all the breaks while Cherry believes
things are rough all over. Between Ponyboy and Cherry, who do you believe
has a more realistic outlook on the world? Be sure to use specific examples
to support your claim.
